I'm Laura! I’m raised midwestern and have lived in Manhattan for 30 years. Love to travel. Sometimes solo. Sometimes with friends or my partner. And, occasionally, when I am most fortunate, I travel together with my mini schnauzer-named Copine.
I crave more outdoor activities like bike riding, scuba diving, skiing and barbecues--just to name a few.
The theater(s) of New York's Broadway Or Londons Westend are a passion!!

In an 1800 Victorian home w/brilliant pine floors--welcome to our bright spacious newly renovated 1 Bedroom (3rd flr) apt. Complete kitchen and everything you need to enjoy your time in Jim Thorpe. Centrally located to Opera House/downtown Jim Thorpe--wonderful restaurants and museums. In addition, brand new comfortable sleeper sofa in living room so the home can accommodate up to 4 guests. Note--the bathroom is only accessible thru master BR.
Guests will have their own private apartment which requires walking up 2 flights of stairs. While we have 2 other apartments--we often do not even hear or see them.
However, the floors can be creaky--so we do ask the 3rd floor guest to be aware of quiet hours and their foot noise in the hallways and apartment between 10pm and 8am. It has never bothered me...and I like to mention it as some folks wear heavy boots etc.
In Jim Thorpe most folks are outside enjoying the nature, museums or dining establishments.
We use a key fob entry system with a lock box....so if you want, you have the flexibility to keep the keys in the lock box as you come and go so if you are traveling with a group--you have the flexibility to do things separately and then access the building and apartment via the lock box.
The stairs, halls and basement are shared common area's. Your apartment is a private smoke-free environment. The building is also smoke free--if you see anyone smoking in the building please notify me.

History of Jim Thorpe, PA
Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, is a small borough located in the Pocono Mountains region of northeastern Pennsylvania in the United States. It is named after the legendary Native American athlete, Jim Thorpe, who was a prominent figure in American sports history.
The area that would become Jim Thorpe was originally inhabited by the Lenni Lenape Native American tribe. European settlers began arriving in the early 19th century, and the town was initially known as Mauch Chunk. The name "Mauch Chunk" is derived from the Lenni Lenape term "mawsch-wie-wie," which means "bear mountain."
Mauch Chunk experienced rapid growth and prosperity in the mid-19th century due to the discovery of coal in the region. The Lehigh Coal & Navigation Company established mining operations, and Mauch Chunk became a major center for the coal industry. The town's location along the Lehigh River also made it a vital transportation hub for shipping coal to other markets.
In 1953, Mauch Chunk merged with the neighboring borough of East Mauch Chunk and was renamed Jim Thorpe to honor the famous athlete. Jim Thorpe had won gold medals in the pentathlon and decathlon events at the 1912 Summer Olympics and was regarded as one of the greatest athletes of his time. After his death in 1953, his widow sought a permanent memorial for him and reached an agreement with the towns of Mauch Chunk and East Mauch Chunk. The two towns merged and rebranded themselves as Jim Thorpe, creating a fitting tribute to the legendary athlete. As part of the agreement, his remains were brought to the town, and a mausoleum was constructed to serve as his final resting place. Today, the Jim Thorpe Memorial and burial site attracts visitors from around the world who come to pay their respects to the iconic athlete.
In addition to its historical significance, Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, is known for its scenic beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities. The town is nestled in the Pocono Mountains and offers activities such as hiking, biking, whitewater rafting, and skiing, making it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
Over the years, Jim Thorpe has preserved its historic charm and has become a tourist destination, with its well-preserved Victorian architecture, historic landmarks, and scenic surroundings. The town's rich history, coupled with its natural beauty, makes it a unique place to visit and learn about the legacy of Jim Thorpe and the coal mining era of northeastern Pennsylvania.
